Dry, complex and full-bodied with intense fruit flavour and an elegant finish. Alluring deep salmon colour. STYLE OF WINE: Oak matured dry rosé
VINIFICATION: This wine is not a by-product of bleeding of grapes for red-wine concentration, but is made from grapes specifically selected for the production of a rosé. The two red components were harvested at full ripeness and gently pressed. The wine was fermented in second year French barrels, the lees was stirred regularly to allow the solids to enhance the complexity of the wine and stabilise the colour. The Viognier was fermented separately and added to the rosé prior to bottling to add elegance and a fresh component to this stylish wine. WOOD MATURATION: Nine months in seasoned French oak, malolactic fermentation in the barrels. Analysis: Alcohol 13% vol Residual Sugar 2.3 gm/l Total Acidity 5.6gm/l pH 3.22 BACKGROUND: The name celebrates Solms-Delta’s rich history. Lekkerwijn is the name of the farm adjoining Delta, now largely incorporated into it. The first owner, Henri l’Ecrévent, was granted the property in 1690. Locals, unable to pronounce his name, solved the problem by dubbing him Arie Lekkerwijn. He was slain nine years later by the first owner of Delta, Hans Silberbach, who then took flight and was never seen again. HISTORY OF THE FARM: The 320 year old Franschhoek farm has reclaimed its historic role as a wine estate under the direction of Prof. Mark Solms, a world-renowned neuroscientist recently returned to South Africa. |
