Dear Wine Lovers,
Finely educated tongues are hard to come by. And if you think you
have one, well perhaps it's time to reconsider. A nefarious tongue
may fall prey to what the ear hears and the mind interprets. In this
case I would of course be referring to wine tasting.
Just the other day, a wine colleague of mine adamantly agreed to a
comment I made about a white wine we were putting to the test. I
made a profoundly ridiculous comment and stifled a roar of laughter
by breathing in the wine I was supposed to drink. I had received an
approving nod of confirmation to my comment, "This tastes rather
like the bottom of a gym bag"...(please refrain from asking me how I
know what the bottom of a gym bag tastes like).
Anyway, my point is that we do fall prey to fellow wine commentator
prose and I would like to encourage your tongue on a reconnaissance
mission to explore your senses more deeply, since you are the one
that is drinking the wine, you are the one that discovers its
mysterious qualities, you are the one who falls in love with it.
And on this note, I introduce to you the
Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection - Cabernet
Sauvignon, my Wine Find of the month. In fact, the Kleine Zalze
winery was awarded the Dave Hughes Trophy for Best South African
Wine Producer in 2007.
TASTING NOTES
Deep red colour. Classic, multi-layered Cabernet nose. Some
chocolate, strong ripe berry fruit. Liquorice and blackcurrant
flavours – good flavour concentration with nicely judged wood. A
winemakers recommendation of 5 – 7 years ageing potential.
